Mari Boine
The film portrays Mari Boine as a musician, composer and member of the indigenous arctic Sami people. Together with her we embark on a musical journey, simultaneously tracing her actual work and traditional roots. Since the beginning of her international career Mari Boine has performed all over the world. In order not to lose touch with nature, which is inherently important for her survival within her native culture, she moved back to her hometown of Karasjok, the centre of Sami culture in Norway. Sandwiched between tradition and the modern world, between the mostly unspoiled arctic landscape and the highly artistic, yet artificial, setting of an internationally acclaimed musician, we follow Mari on her journey through fascinating landscapes of sound, music, nature and culture.
