Marche et rêve !
We might paraphrase Pascal by saying that "man is a reed, but a walking reed." There's nothing more commonplace and more astonishing than walking. Walking seems a natural act, and yet, both literally and metaphorically, it is composed of a series of delicate balances. Man is on the march. But does man's steps always lead him to what's best? Forced marches, military conquests, flights of entire populations, Nazi processions and Stalinist parades have perverted the image of walking. This documentary draws on newly filmed sequences, archival footage and interviews with writers, neurologists and historians to examine the meaning of walking, in terms of physicality and metaphysics, from the mechanical walk to the inner walk, from the material to spiritual walk.
