Macha et Dacha : les sœurs siamoisesMacha and Dacha: Siamese Twins
Masha and Dasha Krivoshliapova are both 51. They have never lived apart. Masha and Dasha are Siamese twins. Attached at the waist, they share the same legs, blood system, reproductive organs and bladder. They each have a heart, intestines, a spinal column, two arms and a nervous system. At birth, they were snatched from their parents because they didn't fit the norm. In those times, the early 50s, the frenzy of Soviet experimentation was at its height. For half a century, Masha and Dasha lived in confinement. They have never known anything other than the dark walls of Soviet hospitals, the "cell rooms" of boarding schools for the handicapped, and this little room in a hospice for the aged located south of Moscow where they survive today as best they can. We found Masha and Dasha in Seniors House nº 6, once allotted to old cadres of the Red Army, in September 2000, We offered to make this film, which included the chance to make a trip to France, which many Russians like themselves have dreamed of.
