Finland is the world's nothernmost country that produces its own food. Almost all Finns have their roots in countryside and in farming. In the 1960's, Finnish agriculture went through a structural change that was harder than anywhere in Europe. Small farms became desolate and the excess population of the rural areas moved to city suburbs or to Sweden. Desolation and rundown of the countryside accelerated once more when Finland joined the European union last decade. Earth is trying to tell about a way of living, passed from one generation to another, where work is not a separate or alienating element but a natural and comprehensive meaning of life.
