Lettre aux morts
For the past 20 years, an ethnologist has been regularly visiting a village in Papua New Guinea where he is regarded by the inhabitants as an ancestor returned from their dead. They hope that the things they say to the ethnologist and the filmmaker of this documentary will be heard by their ancestors. The film looks at an exceptional people who, under the very nose of the missionary churches, contractors and all kinds of political authorities, have been taking up the challenge of defending their social identity even as they assimilate modernity.
