This is the history of a distant war. And the history of a faith. But what can we do when history lies in pieces? How can we assemble the puzzle of a tragedy? We would need a time machine, or maybe a photograph. A photograph in black-and-white where each face summons up its own memories. It's a group portrait of 13 men and two women who look out at us. Their youth is almost over. They are posing in front of a cafe window. Someone has written on the placard: "Long live the Spanish republic." They have faith in History but History may have the last word...
