The veterinary office of Gonneville-la-Mallet, a large town in Normandy. Four vets work here. The work is varied: sometimes they make house calls to treat cats and dogs; sometimes farm calls to inspect the livestock, on the lookout for BSE. Nowadays, animals aren't animals in the same way, depending on whether they are house pets or a farmyard beasts. Whether at the office or on the farm, their job brings them into contact with animal diseases and what they reveal. Between these household pets in which their owners invest too many feelings and these farm animals-cum-protein factories, how do we relate to "beasts" today?
