Le Requiem perduThe Lost Requiem
In the uneasy post-World War II years, Henri Tomasi wrote a “Requiem for Peace” in an astonishing style—it was only performed twice, in 1946: in Paris and in Baden-Baden, in memory of the martyrs of the Resistance. 50 years on, at the behest of Frédéric Ducros and Gabriel Vialle, this major musical work returns to the spotlight along with the other work of Henri Tomasi, for the centenary of his birth. Our film follows this recreation under the baton of Michel Piquemal, who explains the musical sense of this work to both his musicians and the audience. Using rare family archives made available by Claude Tomasi, the film takes us into the wings of History and the personal, tormented history which the composer incorporated into this “Requiem for Peace.”
