Le Pavillon des fous dangereux
Separated from the rest of the Villejuif Hospital by high walls and deep trenches, the Henri Colin Unit is a special world in the pyschiatric universe. This unit takes in “dangerous” mental patients which no other institution will deal with. Uncontrollable, often raving patients: under the influence of disease, they have attacked, raped and murdered people. No prison can contain them. In conventional hospitals, they represent a threat for the other patients and the staff. Only in a special unit for difficult patients can their sicknesses be treated. They are cared for by specialized volunteer medical staff working in high-risk conditions. Philippe Visseyrias and Emmanuel Beke spent several weeks at the Henri Colin Unit. They follow the staff at work, meet the patients, listen to their distress, observe their progress.
