Lauzon/Lauzone

Based on the confidences of a friend, the film takes us into the private world of Quebecois filmmaker Jean-Claude Lauzon, who died in a plane crash in 1997, aged 34. Filled out by the reminiscences of people who knew him at different moments in his life, as well as excerpts from his films, the film is a portrait of an intense, complex, highly lucid individual and a courageous, tortured artist whose films form a milestone in Canadian cinema. Behind his highly publicized arrogance, Jean-Claude Lauzon, the provocateur, was also a vulnerable man who constantly grappled with his fear of depression and madness. This disturbing aspect affords a greater insight into his films and his creative process. This is a film about friendship, creativity and the power of poetry; a portrait that, in seeking to recreate the breathless rhythms of Lauzon's life, draws the audience into the heart of his life's struggle.
