La Voix de la Prairie
It is a little-known fact, but the Canadian west is home to a dynamic, well-organized minority of more than 100,000 people who share a unique bond: they are French-speakers. This population is spread out over three provinces, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, in a vast territory called "the Prairie". This film is about these men and women, survivors of a history that is uniquely theirs, a history they are trying to preserve. This French-speaking population lives in a natural environment of vast plains which lie at the heart of a North America of pioneer travelers and trappers. This is a journey in all senses of the term: a geographic discovery of a French Far West in the Canadian plains; an ethnological meeting with a structured minority world fighting for its survival; a voyage back in time to retrace two centuries of American history.
