Kaija Saariaho ou l'amour de loin
A portrait of composer Kaija Saariaho during the world premiere in Salzburg last August of her first opera, "L’Amour de loin". The artist and her work cannot be understand separately. The film follows Saariaho during this period, a potential turning point in her work. The opera is based on a medieval narrative, and centers on the “love from afar” of the troubadour Jaufré Rudel for the Countess of Tripoli: Between East and West, from winter to summer, this film is a journey through Saariaho’s creative imagination. The composer is at her most revealing when dealing with director Peter Sellars, librettist Amin Maalouf, conductor Kent Nagano and the cast.
