Jacques Lacan, la psychanalyse réinventée

Jacques Lacan, psychoanalysis reinvented

A psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and an heir of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan was the initiator of a veritable resurgence of psychoanalysis in France and throughout the world. A clinician specialising in female madness and paranoia, he took his inspiration from German philosophy to construct new concepts and gave his teaching for a quater of a century -from 1953 to 1979- at a celabrated seminar attended by clinical practitioners and intellectuals. To throw light on this remarkable itinerary, the authors of the film have drawn on the words of two philosophers, Jacques Derrida and Christian Jambet, and the views of three psychoanalysts: Jean-Bertrand Pontalis from France, Juliet Mitchell from Britain, and Maria Belo from Portugal.
