Ismail Kadaré
Ismail Kadaré’s work is intimately bound up with his country, Albania, but other themes run through it. These themes come out in his encounters with choreographer Angelin Preljocaj and his company, photographer Nick Waplington, director Calixto Bieito and the Globetrotters company which collects songs and oral traditions and gives them new contemporary life. In Albania, we travel from Tirana to Shkodra, where the photo archives preserve a treasure that is a record of this country’s destiny: thousands of photographic plates of the Marubi Dynasty, taken between 1880 and 1950.
