Each year, hundreds of men and women are disfigured in accidents. These are people who go through hell to reclaim a human visage and the desire to live, despite the operations, the years of suffering as the result of their facial deformity and the many functional handicaps it causes. It is a rebirth that they experience with their family and the surgeons who restore their identity, but it is also thanks to the discreet yet powerful action of the "Gueules cassées" association, which today finances many initiatives in maxillary-facial surgery. A true fellowship of the disfigured, it includes several thousand members. A fellowship founded after the first world war, during which tens of thousands of soldiers were horribly disfigured and used as guinea-pigs in the development of reconstructive plastic surgery.
