Fujimori et Montesinos, le dictateur et son double
The life and times of Vladimiro Montesinos, henchman to former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, who has since taken asylum in Japan. His story has all the ingredients of a good geopolitical thriller: arms and heavy drug dealing, money-laundering, guerrillas and CIA, corruption and blackmail. The main setting: an underground bunker bristling with video cameras designed to compromise those whom the secret master of Peru wants to buy. The career of this flamboyantly baneful hero—reconstituted from thousands of hours of videotape recorded in the bunker where, over the years, the tragicomedy of power and money was played out under the cold eye of the camera—provides this film’s narrative. The epilogue is worthy of the protagonist: an escape, financed by millions of dollars and bags of cocaine, aboard a yacht, from the Galapagos to Aruba, via Coco Island, which ended with his arrest in Caracas and extradition in June 2001.
