The outer borders of Europe resemble a war zone. More than 2000 refugees have died since 1993. After the fall of the Berlin Wall Europe has tightened up on asylum policy. Today there are more violations of the 1951 Geneva Convention in Europe than ever before. Why? In this serie of three programmes our team accompany refugees and their smugglers as they cross the border to Greece. In Germany they go for "a refuge hunt" in the woods and visit the Moroccan village of Ben Yones, divided by a three-metre concrete wall to keep refugees out. Some problematic cases are simply dumped in countries where they do not belong and dozens have died in the hands of their escorting police. The viewer will see how the new, harmonized European asylum policy works in its brutal reality.
