Eine Kielspur im MeerATrail on the Water
Two of Luigi Nono's works form the heart of the film: the piano composition "... Sofferte onde serene...", which Nono composed for Maurizio Pollini and the suite from Nono's later work "Prometeo". Interviews provide a close-up insight into Luigi Nono's musical ideas and the creation of his works conversations with Claudio Abbado and Maurizio Pollini, Nono's widow, Nuria Nono (the daughter of Arnold Shoenberg); and André Richard, who engineered the live electronic part of "Prometeo". When Claudio Abbado and Maurizio Pollini tell of their common listening experiences and conversations, we become aware of how the three artists communicated with one another. Among the topics are Arnold Schoenberg, and Gustav Mahler, in whose final works silence, becoming silent, is part of the composition.
