Dissimulation d'un massacre
On the night of October 17-18, 1961, during a non-violent demonstration against the curfew imposed on them, several dozen Algerians were murdered in Paris by police acting on orders from their superiors. For 40 years, this crime was covered up. Yet these events, the bloodiest to be committed on French soil since the Second World War, were in some ways similar to the darkest hours of the collaboration. Why was this incident covered up? Under what circumstances, for what reasons did the authorities of a democratic nation conceal the scope and seriousness of such events? At a time when the National Assembly has officially recognized the Algerian War, this film should contribute to restoring the events of October 17, 1961 to our collective memory. It is now possible to reinsert these suppressed pages in our history. It is our duty toward the victims of this massacre and their families.
