Crime sans châtiment
The nightmare of the Khmers Rouges still haunts most Cambodians born before 1970. Keeping the collective memory of the crimes of Pol Pot and his organization alive is more than ever a necessity. Run by Youk Chhang in Phnom Penh, the documentation center on the genocide attempts to fufill this function. Youk Chhang sends his teams to the most remote villages to interview the victims of torture and record their accounts. There are still very serious problems in Cambodia: murders, land appropriations, illegal trade of precious wood, general corruption and, most of all, impunity for the crimes committed by the former members of the Angkar. Madam Sok My knows how much the memory of this period still makes people psychologically and physically ill.
