Congo : Heart of Darkness
The effects of the genocide in Rwanda are far from over. Stories of children up for adoption, hotly contested in Italy as well as other countries, are the order of the day. 120,000 prison inmates stand accused of genocide, and the daunting problem of how to try to judge them is being met by a network of village courts. The documentary turns its searchlight on the condition of the refugees huddled in shantytowns in the border areas of the Congo occupied by the Rwandan army. It also looks at how the war is financed: mainly by the mining of coltan, a substance used to produce electronic semiconductors. For the moment the military has the control of the coltan trade, but there are several other contenders.
