Bernardo Bertolucci
This documentary is a profile of Bernardo Bertolucci drawn exclusively from stock footage in the RAI Archives. His career is reconstructed by means of dozens of interviews, backstage clips and awards ceremonies. The documentary unfolds in chronogical order, from his encounter with Pasolini to the making of his most recent film. The film examine his early switch from poetry to cinema, his start in directing with the film, his periods of political commitment, scandal of Last Tango in Paris, his partnership with the American studios, and his fight against Italy's corruption which led him to work abroad many years. In 1987, The Last Emperor inaugurated a trilogy of author blockbuster productions. Steeling Beauty marked his dicreet return to the Italian cinema. Now, with Besieged the Director displays his growing interest in the language of television. Indeed, the documentary concludes with a statement by the Director on television today.
