Architectures de l'habitat : intérieurs, une petite histoire
The medieval dwelling: the first transformations concern the interiors and are linked to the emergence of a desire for intimacy. The urban mansion: a building with a courtyard on one side and garden on the other, which turns its back on the city: the communal room will soon vary in the specialized rooms. The transition from the private house to the apartment building: the growth of cities in the late 18th century brought with it a new phenomenon. Until then only one domestic group lived in a house, henceforth the dwellings are superimposed and the apartment building appears. They are distinguished by the tenant's status and a hierarchy of stories is established. Advent of workers housing: the objects of comfort slowly spread through the habitation of the different social layers. The reconstruction of the 50s: towers and urbanism versus the city. Industrial mass production. The art of living is forgotten for a notion of standardized comfort. Many Frenchmen have a bathroom for the first time.
