Anava shein letara bemilimA Love Beyond Words
The film is about the 40 nuns of the Beit Jamal monastery near Jerusalem. Why did they sacrifice motherhood and marriage to devote themselves to a collective life of silent submission to God? For the first time, the nuns allowed an outsider to film them, and the director attempts to deal with the problems that come up: how can she show their lives? How can she understand their silence without recourse to speech? A Love Beyond Words shows us lives devoted mostly to prayer, their modest rooms, their common worship in the chapel, the communal Sunday meal and their daily activities. The nuns have no contact with the outside world except for a few letters from their family and the Sunday gatherings during which the Mother Superior informs them of important world events. Are they completely detached from the state of affairs in Israel?
