Alexandre Pavlovitch Lobanov

Alexander Pavlovitsch Lobanov was born in 1924 at Mologa (Russia). As consequence of meningitis in his childhood, he becomes deaf and mute. As he is aggressive and violent, his family has him confined to an asylum at the age of 23. He is declared mentally retarded. First, he fights against his confinement, but gradually abandons all effort and takes refuge in autism. At the age of 30 he begins to draw. Nowadays, Alexander Pavlovitsch Lobanov is almost 80 years old. he has spent almost 50 years in a psychatric hospital. This is a portrait of an artist of Art Brut who has produced an exceptional body of graphic work. This film introduces a series of portraits based on the same principles.
