A Miner's Tale
The story of an immigrant worker who decides to make a trip to inform his first wife and his family that he is HIV-positive. Originally from Mozambique, he now works in the gold mines of South Africa. He lives with his second wife nearby. It has been so many years since Jaokim last visit that he has almost forgotten the existence of his first wife and his child. But in the back of his mind, he preserves an idyllic memory of a rural life and a homeland he wants to return to the day he can no longer work. Like many colleagues, Jaokim, is torn between two worlds: the modern urban world of the mine and the rural, traditional world of his community. The only reason he migrated to the city is money. Jaokim learned he was HIV-positive but he's not sure he can find the courage to tell his family. He can only think of one thing: will he find the nerve to mention his sickness?
