A Filetta
A journey in the company of the group A Filetta. It takes us through the landscapes of Corsican polyphonics, evoking its history and rediscovery after years of neglect and, finally, considering the future of this music in 2002. To dispel the false notions about Corsican polyphonics, the film demonstrates the beauty and depth of these songs as seen in the work of A Filetta. A Filetta — six men who for the past 20 years have devoted their talents to their music and who, while remaining true to a demanding concept of the polyphonic tradition, have never been afraid to expose it in the light of modernity without falling into the trap of commercial variety. We see and hear a Corsica of grim and rugged beauty, birthplace of traditional songs such as the “paghjella” sung at the opening of the film. It inspired such A Filetta works as the magnificent Medea Oratorio which concludes the film.
