It was in Inca de Oro in the desert of northern Chile that the term, la cumbia, was first heard. What was this music which made bodies and landscapes dance, which brought life to seemingly abandoned places, this music that we've heard everywhere since then, from Patagonia to New York ? From Carthagena, where it was born amid the songs and drums, to Bogota, where the young people blended it with rock and rap, from Barranguilla to Maracaïbo where the big bands have pride of place, this music and these musicians take us to an unexpectedly spirited Columbia, which continues to assert itself "despite everything".
