Un pique-nique chez OsirisPicnic With Osiris
The year is 1898. The Dreyfus affair is headline news in all the papers. Héloïse Ancelin, 19, is from a rich, anti-semite Parisian family. Rebelling against her hated father, who has never shown any love for her and who terrorises and cheats on her submissive mother, Mathilde, Héloïse falls in love with Maxime, a young Jewish journalist. During one particularly bitter argument, Héloïse's father has a heart attack and dies. In the eyes of the rest of the family, Héloïse killed him. At a family meeting, it is decided that her mother will take her on a long journey to separate her from Maxime. Her austere cousin, Olympe, will join them. The three women leave Paris and the stifling atmosphere of European high society. In Egypt, they discover a different world made of startling images, hot sun, flamboyant colours and intoxicating aromas, inhabited by people with totally different customs. Far from the judgmental gaze of their peers, Héloïse, Mathilde and Olympe find themselves and, at the dawn of a new century, finally give full rein to their convictions and desires.
