Transito
Of Kurdish origin, Nursel and Hüseyin escaped from Turkey where their lives were in danger. Hidden in the back of a lorry, Hüseyin went to Germany, while Nursel and her young son boarded a cargo ship bound for Italy. After an account of their adventures, the opening pictures of their wedding reappear. However, for several years, they have been forced to live apart. Their union, which is only religious, is not recognized by the authorities. As long as their application for asylum is not accepted, they cannot be reunited. The film is then built around their separate accounts and sequences portraying their respective ways of life. Their feelings are a combination of doubts, nostalgia and bitterness, while the people in charge of their applications for asylum in Italy and Germany provide information concerning the legal aspects of the couple's case. Based on this specific story, Transito is a portrayal of the current political situation in Europe.
