"One applauds death and it is sheer madness", exclaims an aficionado. This film, a far cry from exulting bullfights, explores this hard-to-believe relationship which exists between the fanatic bullfight lovers and the animal. Breeders, matadors alike allow us to enter their unique world. These men and women raise the bulls like their own children. Then, in a moment of glory in the arena, they put the bull to death. This film unravels like a theatre play, the last act being the end of the season Feria that takes place early September in Arles, France. The bullfighting world emulates life as one priest of the bullfighting arena, an aficionado himself, tries to explain : "You love, you die and life goes on." There are no judgements, just testimonies by the actors involved in this unique world of bullfighting… A world of shadows and light.
