Sud Africa, una nuova schiavitù
With the exception of countries currently at war, South Africa is considered the most violent nation in the world. The risk of death by murder are three times greater than the risk of accidental road death. Yet this is a highly industrialized nation equipped with a vast, heavily traveled network of roads. Social degeneration, political struggles, organized crime, racial revenge... The most developed and civilized country in Africa has been unable to get into gear despite the momentum promised by Mandela's introduction of a new currency in 1994. Violence has been the obstruction. In South Africa crime statistics record some 25,000 murders each year, 30,000 acts of attempted murder, one rape every 30 seconds. Foreign investors are fleeing, tourism is on the decline, qualified workers are emigrating, white farmers are defending their land the best they can against the attacks of bloodthirsty bands. This reportage depicts the wave of violence that is ravaging this magnificent country potentially rich and full of natural beauties.
