Sister - Wife
Today, polygamy is still a reality for many. Here is the story of Zipora, a religious and loving woman who wakes up one morning to a new reality. Her husband is about to take a second wife who is 14 years younger than she. Both will have to live under the same roof and share the same man. In the outskirts of Dimona in Israel lives another society, the Afro-American Hebrew Israelites – colorful, unique, closed to the world and living according to its own set of laws. According to the Law of the Torah, the Hebrew Israelites men have adopted polygamy to their way of life. Sister-Wife deals with the role of the women in a patriarchal religious society, the role that society bestows upon them and the place of their individual emotions within their religious laws. The film follows Zipora’s inner journey and the manner in which she deals with the injustice and inequality of polygamy. It is a film by women about women who may live in another community, but in many ways reflect upon us. How do two women share the same subject of love ? How much feminine wisdom is required to cope with such a situation ? Can the two eventually form a bond together ? Do they have any freedom of choice ?
