Paul Cézanne, peintre
Discussing Cézanne (1839-1906) is still today like entering a sacred territory. On the one hand, he personifies a spiritual model, a hermit, an artist who accomplished the quality of his work through extreme solitude; on the other hand, he has become the prophet of modernity. Indeed, Cézanne embodies the image of the idealistic artist, haunted by painting as the expression of nature. Many images of the film were shot in Provence, in the places that most inspired him, as the Sainte-Victoire mountain. The film takes us to Paris and Auvers-sur-Oise where he returned to his Impressionist friends. The film's director uses both Cézanne's writings and close relatives' testimonies to evoke his personal life.
