Pascin l'impudique
The life of Pascin (Julius Pincas, 1885 - 1930), Bulgarian-born artist who is considered one of the major figures of the School of Paris alongside Soutine, Modigliani and Foujita. Using archives of the period, fictional links and rare documents, this film chronicles one of the most fascinating artistic careers of the early 20th century. Undisputed prince of Montparnasse and Montmartre, a great lover torn between two women, Pascin embodied the spirit of the Roaring Twenties. Painter of the female form, adventurer of night life and brothels like his mentor Toulouse-Lautrec, his work owed much to the drawings he studied in Vienna, Munich and later Berlin. Influenced in his youth by illustrations and expressionism, he attended the Académie Matisse, then was marked by his time in New York and in Cuba during the Great War. His untiring curiosity and his atypical style allowed him to explore various techniques. A workaholic, a great traveler, an appealing and tortured individual, he committed suicide on June 2, 1930, worn out by an unrestrained bohemian life.
