Paroles de profsTeacher's Tale
After Cops' Tale, Teacher’s Tale continues the series of reports investigating French society through its mental health institutions for civil servants, in this case for the teaching profession. The general health insurance for National Education runs 11 such institutions, among them the Marcel Rivière Institute, a psychiatric hospital known under the name of “La Verrière”, treating some 1,100 patients a year, among them 40% are teachers treated for depression neurosis, psychosis as well as more serious mental illnesses. The report tells the story of three in-patients, teachers who have accepted to face the camera. Jean-Pierre, 52, suffering from depression. As a staunch defender of republican tradition, he’s been assaulted after having refused that young girls wear the Islamic veil during lessons. "Today, I don’t know anymore why I am doing this job", he says. Anne, 51. She ran a prep school for 20 years, attempted suicide and is the victim of a severe "burn out". Valérie, 31, a teacher of literature. She’s being treated for depression and communication disorder.
