Globalization - an often abstract economic concept. François Guichard, chairman of CITEL, a small French company, practices it daily. What with relocating and the subcontracting, Guichard is always looking for new ways to respond to the law of the marketplace and remain competitive. To reduce costs, he has relocated to China the production of electronic components he previously had done in France. As a result, he has hired young women in Shanghai, paying them $100 a month while laying off 29 employees in France. For the past three years, the filmmaker followed François Guichard during every phase of his company's globalization, in France, China, Slovenia and Belgium. One can see it as an instruction manual in globalization which is frankly spine chilling.
