Mes chers antipodesMy Own Private Oz
On the eve of the centenary of Federation and the Sydney Olympics, the director returns to the country he left 25 years ago. The film reveals the mindshift undertaken by Australians and the society since this time, through the personal tales of his family and friends. We see how Australians themselves, these past thirty years, have begun to discover their continent and, in doing this, have begun reinterpreting their past, their culture and their image of themselves. The film is a reflection on what is home and, beyond that, shows how far from being a pale copy of England or America, the Australian continent is well and truly immersed in the waters of the Asian-Pacific rim.
