The Man Who Learned to Play the Tuba

Finn can see no meaning in his solitary life. He is a sculptor and his life is as grey as the granite he hews for gravestones. His colleagues don't like him and give him the cold shoulder. One night after a dismal drinking bout, he spots a tuba in a shop window. The next day, he buys it and practices as hard as he can, but nobody can stand his enthusiastic but hopeless honking, least of all the leader of the brass band he tries to join. One day he is in his car, parked beneath a motorway flyover, philosophizing about his loneliness and inability to break the ice with other people. Suddenly he spots a woman on the bridge. She is about to jump off. He grabs his tuba and plays...
