Luciano Berio
It is very seldom that an eminent figure in the fine arts, virtually "a living legend", has lived to witness the outcome of a transitional era of which he had been a decisive force. Such is the case of revolutionary Italian composer Luciano Berio. Berio is one of the most important contemporary composers and musical thinkers of the second half of the 20th century. In the early 50s, Berio joined the bustling Avant-garde circle of composers who sought to discover a new universal musical language in post-war Europe and became the leading force in the development of new music. With his most recent and highly acclaimed work "Cronaca del Luogo" as the axis of the film, Berio reflects on his dreams and their materialisation over the last 50 years, his views on the limited success of contemporary music in reaching audiences' hearts and his views on what the future holds for contemporary music. The film also provides a personal and intimate insight into Berio's life as we visit his birthplace, the Milan Conservatory where he studied, his "Tempo reale" studio in Florence for music research and production, and his home in Tuscany where he lives today.
