Looking for the Elks
Elks, Chinese one and only species, are the first level protection animals in China. In 1993, 64 elks were moved from Beijing Elk Garden to Swan Inlet, an Elk Natural Reservation District in Hubei Province. During the following years, the tame elks bred into 150, and became the closest ones to the wild nature in the world. In 1998, the biggest flood of this century broke out in the Yangtze River. Swan Inlet was badly demolished. Almost 40 elks ran away. The elk keepers took many ways to search them and help them come back. And, at the same time, the keepers found a newborn elk, and took it home. They named it JiaoJiao. When the winter approached, some lost elks returned to Swan Inlet. JiaoJiao also got stronger under the care of the keepers. The elks in Swan Inlet have a calm home again. This documentary tells people that there is still a long way to protect wild animals and environments.
