Lon Chaney
Hollywood, 1929. Sound has arrived and the studios - and the stars - are rushing to embrace the new medium. Most anyway. Greta Garbo and Lon Chaney, MGM's two biggest draws, at first hesitate. But within a year, they make their talking debuts, and just weeks after the release of The Unholy Three, Chaney is dead. Unlike Garbo who went on to greater fame, Chaney passed into legend, the majority of his films unseen for generations. Who was this man with such public recognition that a song was written about him ? What was the private face behind the public masks ? What caused him to be dubbed "Man of a Thousand Faces" ? In the talking version of The Unholy Three, Chaney displays vocal talents that suggest he might become "the Man of a Thousand Voices". But this is not to be.
