Les Enfants du BlancThe Children of the White Man
The film centers on the director Sara Bouyain’s relationship with her grandmother, born in 1920 in what is now Burkina Faso, the offspring of a French colonial officer and a young African woman. By inquiring into the special fate of this crossbred minority to which she belongs - the requisitioning of the mothers, the abandoning of the children by the fathers, their mandatory placement in orphanages - the director confronts her own crossbreeding.
