Sometimes they are born in France. More often they have lived there most of their lives with their father and mother, brothers and sisters. They went to school there and know virtually nothing of their "country of origin". But suddenly, as a consequence of a serious or minor misdemeanor, and after having served a prison term - ie having paid their debt to society and in theory having made amends - they are booted out to the other side of the Mediterranean into the "twilight zone". It's a double penalty. The authors of this film interviewed these perpetual or temporary outcasts. But, except for the judicial bond of nationality, they are children of France...
