Least Said, Soonest Mended
This is a film about secrecy and notions of family. Pregnant aged 15 in 1960s' England and dispatched to an institution where she was hidden away and arrangements made for the subsequent adoption of her baby, filmmaker Steve Thomas' twin sister Val spent the next 25 years not knowing where her child was or whether she was alive or dead. Val's determination and her relinquished daughter's curiosity finally bring about their reconciliation in New Zealand, now Val's home. This event generates new encounters and provokes fresh revelations as the family motto of "least said, soonest mended" is challenged in favour of an openness unthinkable 30 years ago...
