By the time he was eighteen, Julian Lopez alias "El Juli" had already entered the bullfighting annals. Not since El Cordobés in the 60s has a torero enjoyed such media interest, been so idolized and so fawned upon. Today his name alone guarantees a full arena and draws crowds usually indifferent even hostile to this art. The film is structured around a watershed date for El Juli : May 15, 2000, the day he appeared in Madrid as the matador de toros for the biggest feria of the year, the San Isidro, before a highly demanding public. El Juli had always dreamed of this moment : success would have placed him immediately in the hall of fame of great bullfighters. But the dream veered to nightmare and this bullfight was a resounding failure. The film shows what happened on that day, the dramatic foundation of the film being that terrible corrida on which hinges everything that was subsequently filmed in September. The film follows El Juli in his daily life, on the road, with his family or friends. It attempts to inspect his personality and understand why as the scriptwriter says, "you age quicker in front of a bull".
