La Peur au ventre

Nowadays, must we be afraid of eating meat ? How can we know if we're contaminated ? Scientists fear a human epidemic : they estimate as many as 136,000 victims. In France, there have been officially only two deaths. A figure that is all the more surprising because the French have consumed contaminated British meat. So have all the French cases really been declared and identified ? Some families are convinced of the contrary... A nine-month investigation in the field denounces the traffic in meat and animal meal in France and Belgium, the scandal of the stocking of animal meal, the pollution and possible contamination by knacker's yards. Following the veterinary investigations squad, the gendarmerie and the fraud squad, the film traces all the phases of a judicial and epidemiological inquiry in a farming world where the code of silence reigns. From slaughterhouse to our tables, are the channels safe ? What do they put in a hamburger nowadays ? The filmmakers found reasons to be alarmed...
