La Nation invisibleThe Invisible Nation
The Invisible Nation is a documentary film set on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua about the plight of indigenous communities to preserve their culture and the largest tropical biosphere in Central America. The film is a look at the daily life in the Mayagna community of Awas Tingni. Preserved by countless generations of the Mayagna people, Awas Tingni is one of the last expanses of virgin tropical forests remaining in Central America. In order to protect themselves once against the threat of deforestation, the Mayagna have summoned the government of Nicaragua before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica, marking the first time that an indigenous communitiy challenges the law of a state in an international court of law.
