L'Amateur d'imprudenceThe Lover of Imprudence
A poet, a novelist and an author of numerous essays on art, André Pieyre de Mandiargues lived through what may go down in history as the main literary and artistic movement of the 20th century : surrealism. He had a passion for painting and plastic arts in general, and he met most of the people who were to transform art radically, from Henri Cartier-Bresson to Miró and Max Ernst. Mainly filmed in the writer's apartment in Paris, in the National Museum of Natural History and in the region of Haute-Normandie, this documentary aims at transposing on the screen the labyrinthine universe of Mandiargues, who drew the essence of the fantastic and of dreams from reality. No commentary has been included to relate Mandiargue's life : the writer and those who met him and loved him directly express themselves in the film.
