Karlheinz Stockhausen

Karlheinz Stockhausen, one of the most revolutionary and important composers of our time, is interviewed by conductor Charles Hazlewood at his studio near Kuerten, a town outside Cologne, where he has lived since the 1960s. He talks about his musical development, from studying with Messiaen through working in electronic music to his recent magnum opus, the week-long opera cycle "Lichter". We also see him in rehearsal and performance at the annual Stockhausen course in Kuerten, in a number of premieres and in his music theatre piece, "Sirius".
